It was a powerful display of unity in Kalamazoo on Wednesday night, as the community came together to honor the victims of Tuesday's tragic bicycle crash with a ride of silence.

About 600 bicyclists made the ride to remember the five killed and support the 4 injured when a pickup truck hit the 9 riders of “The Chain Gang” on North Westnedge Avenue.

The ride of silence took cyclists on a nearly 6 mile route through Kalamazoo, starting at Arcadia Ales. Former and current members of the Chain Gang group, which many of the victims were a part of, participated in the ride.

Those at Wednesday night's ride say it was also an opportunity to raise awareness about sharing the road with cyclists and the rights they have. They say more can be done to make sure cyclists are safe in our community.
