  • Create Your Own Greeting/Holiday Cards: Kalamazoo Public Library, 6:30-800pm, FREE! - Do you love sending or receiving personalized greeting and holiday cards?  Learn simple photo editing techniques in our digital lab, The Hub, which will help you make a most memorable card.  Participants will also learn about the best websites to have your card printed.  Space is limited.  Please register.

Friday, December 4th:

  • 42nd Annual Holiday Art Sale (through December 5th): Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Fri: 4-8pm, Sat: 9a-3p, FREE! - The annual sale fills the museum lobby and classrooms of the Kirk Newman Art School with hand-crafted ceramic and glass pieces; jewelry; hand-woven scarves and accessories; paintings; functional and decorative ceramics; framed photographs, prints, and paintings; and metal and glass sculpture. All of the work is created by art school students and faculty in the studios and classrooms of the art school, and proceeds support the artists and the school. Patrons look forward to finding one-of-a-kind items for their gift list, or to complete a holiday outfit or their home's seasonal decor. The museum often sees a spike in membership from those seeking early shopping benefits.
  • Michigander (wsg Steel Giant, Ellis, and Elroy Meltzer): Shakespeare's, 6-10pm, $6 presale/$9 day of show - Michigander bring their high quality live show to one of Kalamazoo's best venues for an incredible evening of live music. They will also be bringing their friends Steel Giant, Ellis, and Elroy Meltzer to share the stage. This is will be a very special night that you won't want to miss!

Saturday, December 5th:

  • Traditional Holiday and Tree Lighting Celebration: Celery Flats Historic Area, 7pm, FREE! - Set your sights on holiday lights, caroling and holiday treats! Please join in an evening night of fun at the City of Portage annual Tree Lighting and Traditional Holiday Celebration. The fun kicks off at the City Centre, near the Portage District Library. Then follow a horse-drawn wagon, complete with jingle bells and Christmas carolers, on a short walk down the Portage Creek Bicentennial Trail to the Celery Flats Historical Area, where the holiday celebration will take place. Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet visitors at the historic schoolhouse and refreshments will be available at the Hayloft Theatre. Hot cider, hot cocoa will be available for a $1 donation per cup. Proceeds from the sales will benefit area charities. Admission is free.
  • The Piano Guys: Miller Auditorium, 8pm, admission varies - What began as an experiment and then exploded into an Internet phenomenon has now evolved into an incredible success story.
