After a Battle Creek Police Officer was arrested for alleged drunk driving Sunday morning, another area law enforcement agency will be handling the investigation.

The City of Battle Creek says Sunday that the unnamed officer was off duty and in his personal vehicle, when he crashed into a utility pole around 4am in the City of Springfield. He wasn’t hurt and was arrested shortly afterwards and lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail on a drunk driving charge.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office will be handling the investigation.

Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker said that while he is not “making excuses or justifying the behavior of this officer”, it’s important to note that their officers are human, not super human. Blocker says that the officer will not receive special treatment, and is on administrative leave while the investigation takes place.

The officer’s arraignment is set for February 26.
