Cedar Point Closing Mean Streak in September

If you were a kid in the 90s, Mean Streak was a no-brainer on your list of coasters not to miss at Cedar Point. Unfortunately, as newer technology and diverse coasters come to the scene, old rides must be retired.

Cedar Point announced, today, they will be closing Mean Streak for good.

According to an article:

Mean Streak will permanently close the night of Friday, September 16. Guests and fans who want to pay their last respects can ride the coaster while the park is open daily through September 5... Finally, on September 16, the opening night of Cedar Point’s 20th HalloWeekends, the “last rites” will be given to the coaster with one final public riding session from 6 - 7 p.m. A special memorial ceremony and procession from FrontierTown to the park’s “Dead Rides Cemetery” will then take place at 7:30.

I didn't grow up in Michigan; the amusement park of my youth was Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois.  I have a feeling that losing Mean Streak would be similar to losing American Eagle. Nothing says "I'm an adult, now" like losing your childhood coaster.
