Day 14: Grave Encounters [Horror Film Review]
Found footage films are becoming a dime a dozen. They're super cheap to produce, and incredibly profitable. But the problem is every studio wants to release 40 found footage films a year, and 90% of them are junk. So now we, the horror fan, have the daunting task of weeding through all the junk to find that diamond in the rough. If done correctly, a found footage movie can be great and ultra scary. Grave Encounters is one of those rare found footage movies that was done correctly.
A group of ghost hunters with a TV show called Grave Encounters, are invited to spend the night in a haunted institution. The crew set up cameras and start to film, so they can eventually edit the footage together for one of their episodes. Things start off kind of slow, a weird noise here, a creaky door opening by itself there, but it doesn't take long before sh*t really hits the fan.
If you're looking for a great scary movie to watch during the Halloween season, watch Grave Encounters. It's currently streaming on Netflix, so you have zero excuse to pass this one up. Again, it takes a little bit for things to get going, but trust me, the pay off is fantastic. And fellows, if you're on a date with a lady, show her Grave Encounters. She won't want to sleep alone. Trust me.
**Note: there's a sequel out there but I hear it sucks.**
