It's hard to pick just one because the whole trilogy is incredible, so I'm going to do the whole trilogy for day two.

In Night of the Living Dead, a group of people are forced to lock themselves in an abandoned farmhouse after the dead come back to life to feast on human flesh!!  Dawn of the Dead takes place about 10 years after the events of Night. The world is becoming overrun with zombies, and this time, a group of people lock themselves in a mall to try and survive the zombie apocalypse.  By the time we reach the events of Day of the Dead, the entire population has been taken over by the living dead, and a small group of survivors are trying to stay alive in an old army bunker.

Every single one of these movies is a classic.  Night of the Living Dead is the granddaddy of zombie cinema.  There were zombie films before Night, but George Romero took this to a whole new level.  Before Night, zombies were more slaves.  Romero was the one who decided the living dead would eat the living.  When George Romero made Dawn of the Dead, he brought on Tom Savini for the special effects, and blamo!, the modern zombie was born.  But in my opinion, Savini's best work is in Day.  I swear to Lemmy (God), Tom Savini actually killed people in this, the effects are that great.  Want proof?  Watch the clip below.  If you're at work, turn the speakers down and make sure your boss isn't around.

George Romero's Living Dead trilogy has inspired every single zombie movie made after 1968, and that's not my opinion, that's a fact.  Later this month we'll talk more about zombie films, and of course, the absolute brilliance that is the Italian zombie film.

Editor's note: Each day in October, Ramone is picking a classic (or cheesy) horror film to review and share.
