Fulci's Zombie has an interesting history.  In 1978, Dario Argento signed on as a producer for Dawn of the Dead, and was given rights to release the film in Italy under the title Zombi.  Zombi was so freaking popular in Italy that every horror filmmaker wanted to jump on the zombie bandwagon, and that included Lucio Fulci.

In 1979, Fulci released an unofficial sequel to Zombi, called Zombi 2.  The film was released in the UK as Zombie Flesh Eaters and in the US as simply Zombie. Where Dawn of the Dead featured freshly reanimated corpses, Zombie featured 400 year old reanimated corpses!  And when a corpse is reanimated after 400 years, he doesn't move fast, and doesn't look pretty.

Zombie features some of the greatest zombies captured on film.  Yeah, the recently reanimated deceased are cool and all, but a zombie with a rotted nose and worms crawling out of its eyes, now that's movie magic!  Plus, Zombie features some of the greatest gore scenes captured on film, including the infamous "splinter in the eye" gag and "zombie vs shark" scene.

In my opinion, Fulci's Zombie is one of the greatest zombie films of all time.  I put it in the same category as Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, it's that freaking good.  If you love gore, and the living dead feasting on human flesh, than Fulci's Zombie is a must watch!
