Back in the 80s, England went through a giant home media censoring phase.  If a movie was too violent, they deemed it a "video nasty."  A video nasty is a film that was either heavily censored, or banned completely.  Now, if I'm a 15 year old kid, and my country is giving me a list of movies not to watch, what do you think I'm watching?

One of the many films on the video nasty list was Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead.  And if any film deserved a "coveted" spot on this list, it's Evil Dead.  Nice and violent and gory.  A gorehound's dream come true.

I'm pretty sure at this point, anyone who's mildly interested in horror films has seen the original Evil Dead.  Sure, it may be a tad dated now with its primitive stop motion special effects, but it's that low budget charm that gives the Evil Dead all its, well, charm.  Plus, the entire cast and crew is from Michigan, including the greatest actor to ever grace the silver screen, Bruce Campbell.

Evil Dead is the ultimate low budget, cabin in the woods film.  I know some of the film is little dated, but I'll still put the Evil Dead up against any horror film out there, because at the end of the day, the Evil Dead is a great scary movie.  Whether you've seen this or not, the Evil Dead deserves another viewing during the Halloween season.
