Who says there's nothing to do downtown!!!  Coming up Thursday is something that we used to do in Akron, OH when I worked for 97.5 WONE back in the mid 80s.  We used to throw a party on the top deck of a parking garage on Market Street and called it a "Deck Party".  Check out all the details...

The Kalamazoo Downtown Music Jam invites the community to come jam with the musicians on October 8 from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on the top deck of the Arcadia Creek Parking Structure, on the corner of Rose Street and Eleanor.  The event is free, and there is a charge for parking if you want to drive your car to the top and tailgate.

"The Downtown Music Jams have been a great addition to our community,” says Mayor Bobby Hopewell.  “Not only do they provide an avenue for local artists to gain greater connections in the Kalamazoo music scene, but they allow us to promote unusual spaces for the use of events. We have always wanted to use the top of the parking deck to bring back the memories of the days when the Kalamazoo Symphony hosted concerts on the top of the former Gilmore Department Store parking ramp. The Arcadia Creek Parking Deck should be an amazing venue.”

The Kalamazoo Downtown Music Jam is a free event and created to bring musicians of greater Kalamazoo together with their instruments to jam out and have a good time. This showcase of local artists is sponsored by the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation. The concept of the Downtown Music Jam was created and developed by Mayor Bobby Hopewell in partner with Chris Falk and the Downtown Music Jam planning committee.

The October 8 Jam will be hosted by Kalamazoo’s very own, Chris Falk of Kzoo Music Scene. Performers include: Matthew Borr, Jim Jager, Leaf Experience,  Funt Conly,  Crazy MIC, Skitzo, Curtis Lee Putman, Our Rock, Sammy Melchi and Shukrani Goodlow, Sweet Season, FlyLight, Bride of Fleckenstein, Sumarah, Samuel Howard,  and Mercy Beach,

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., musicians will perform 10-minute sets followed by Open Jam at 8:30 p.m. where the musicians and attendees are welcomed to jam together for 30 minutes. As a part of the Downtown Music Jam experience, door prizes will be raffled off.  Limited food vendors will be on-site.  Sound will be provided by Dragon Bros Production LLC.
