Join us at Kalamazoo State Theatre for a double feature event of the 2014 film “Take Me to the River,” followed by a live performance featuring some of the artists from the film.

Documentary:
Directed by Martin Shore & named after the Al Green classic, this documentary is a celebration of the musical influence of Memphis, paying tribute to old-school blues and R&B masters as they work with hip-hop artists of today, bridging the communication gap between generations. This feature film follows them through the creative process of recording a new album to reimagine and merge time-honored and newer idioms. Featuring Terrence Howard, William Bell, Snoop Dogg, Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Lil P-Nut, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Yo Gotti, Bobby Rush, Frayser Boy, The North Mississippi All-Stars and many more.

Concert:
Watch members of the movie’s cast, Bobby Rush, Charlie Musslewhite, William Bell, Frayser Boy, Al Kapone, The Hi Rhythm Section, and The Stax Academy Alumni Band with Music Director Boo Mitchell take the stage in a live performance following the footsteps of the film.
