Over the past year I have become a big fan of Peter Gabriel era Genesis.  I am too young to have seen the original band live.

Thankfully there is a great tribute band called, The Musical Box. Over the weekend, I had the chance to see them live in St. Charles, Illinois (Outside Chicago)  at a small theater called The Arcada.

If your not familiar with The Musical Box, they are a five piece band out of Montreal that recreates the Peter Gabriel era of Genesis.  They recreate everything exactly as Genesis would of done it at the time.  On this tour they have been doing two shows,  "Selling England By The Pound"  and the one I saw "Foxtrot".  In the past, they did "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" and "A Trick of The Tale".

Having seen some old videos of Genesis performing, these guy's are dead on.  The lead singer, Denis channels Peter when he performs.  He looks like Peter, wear's all his various costumes and even plays the flute.

The highlight of the show for me was the 23 minute opus, "Supper's Ready".  If I had any complaint about the show, it was that the lead vocals were a little low at times,  but overall these guys are the real deal.

According to their website, Peter Gabriel took his kids to see them to show what he use to do.  Both Phil Collins and Steve Hackett have performed with them.  I hope sometime we can get to see them in Michigan.  If you enjoy this era of the band, you should go see them.
