Fifty year old Charles E. Pickett, Jr of Battle Creek is being charged with five counts of second degree murder in the Tuesday night incident that killed five cyclists and seriously injured four others.

According to the Detroit News, Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said,

“The filing of formal charges is the only first step in the judicial process. The investigation is not over and the police will continue to gather information on what lead up to this crash.”

Pickett, who is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail, didn’t appear during his arraignment in Kalamazoo County District Court.

The News is also reporting of previous incidents in Tennessee.

The Kalamazoo biking community held a Ride of Silence Wednesday evening to memorialize the victims.
