There are few spots better known for a Chicago style deep dish pizza than Gino's East. The restaurant chain is opening their first Michigan location in South Haven.

The lakeshore community has long been a weekend and summer destination for Chicagoans looking to escape the city. Beginning this summer, they'll get to have a taste of home. While those of us lucky enough to live in Michigan full-time can enjoy a Gino's East pizza without travelling around the lake.

The Gino's East of South Haven will be going in at 248 Broadway, two blocks north of Phoenix Street downtown. The building was Joe's Bar and Grill, and before that extensive renovation, a tire shop. It's no surprise why the Joe's location, with its open upper deck seating, would be appealing for the pizzeria.

We got wind of Gino's East coming to Southwest Michigan from the Things to Do in South Haven Facebook page.

Sure you can buy a frozen Gino's East pizza from the store, but you won't need to do that any longer once the South Haven location opens.

Somehow Phoenix got a Gino's East before us. Here's a look at the grand opening of that Arizona location
