Grand Haven native and former Buffalo Sabres coach Dan Bylsma has been hired by the Detroit Red Wings as an assistant to Jeff Blashill.

According to the Red Wings, Bylsma who last coached for Buffalo, also recently coached along side Jeff Blashill  for the U.S. team at the IIHF World Championships.  The United States won the bronze in Denmark at the latest tournament.

Bylsma, along with his work with USA Hockey, is known mostly for his time coaching the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2008 to 2014.  His first year in Pittsburgh saw the Penguins beat the Red Wings for the Stanley Cup.

He also landed a Jack Adams coach of the year award in 2011.  A veteran coach who should help the Wings as they head into their second season at the Little Caesar's Arena.

Could he possibly be a future head coaching candidate for the Red Wings?  We will have to wait and see.   I think this is a great hire, Red Wings fans what do you think?
