Green Day to Head Up 2017 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park
The Global Citizen Festival is back for its sixth year, giving those who’ve done some good an eclectic night of music featuring some of the biggest names in the industry. For rock fans at this year’s event, Green Day will be the main attraction.
The Global Citizen Festival is a free concert in New York’s Central Park, but those attending gain entry by receiving tickets through a lottery after performing tasks and taking action concerning key issues affecting the world. In addition to Green Day, those attending this year will see performances from Stevie Wonder, the Killers, the Chainsmokers, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day, the Lumineers and Alessia Cara. Additional guests are expected to be added. The show is scheduled for Sept. 23.
“We’re grateful to be a part of this year’s Global Citizen Festival,” says Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong. “American aid programs make a significant difference in the betterment of lives at home and around the world, and we should all want these programs to become stronger, not weaker. We all play a part in seeing this mission through and it starts with calling on all our leaders.” This year will mark the band’s Global Citizen Festival debut. For Green Day, the Global Citizen Festival comes at a great time. The band will have concluded over a month’s worth of North American shows, finishing the tour leg a week prior (Sept. 16) at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles. After catching a little breather, they’ll return to the stage at the Global Citizen Festival before resuming their break until the next tour leg starts in South America in November.
