Green Day Play Triumphant Hometown Show at Oakland Coliseum [Exclusive Photos]

Welcome home! Green Day have spent a good portion of 2017 on the road, but Saturday (Aug. 5) was a show they had circled on the calendar for quite some time as it was a massive hometown throwdown at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

The show was a special one for the band, who made the most of the night with their hometown fans, lighting up the night with an impressive light show and repeatedly connecting with the crowd during their two-and-a-half hour, 26-song set.

The fans played a big role in the evening, with audience members being brought up to be part of the night’s opening song “Know Your Enemy,” as well as “Longview” and their Operation Ivy cover of “Knowledge.” The audience member walked away with more than a memory after playing guitar on “Knowledge,” with the band letting them keep the guitar they played onstage.

The bulk of their show was dedicated to hits past and present, with Green Day rolling out “Revolution Radio,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Hitchin’ a Ride,” “Welcome to Paradise,” “Basket Case” and “Still Breathing” during the core of their show. There was also an epic medley of covers featuring “Shout,” “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and “Hey Jude.”

Finishing out the night, the band played a pair of encores. The first featured rocked up performances of “American Idiot” and “Jesus of Suburbia,” while the second found the band pulling the plug for acoustic renditions of “21 Guns” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”
