A man who pleaded no contest to embezzlement charges has now been sentenced.

In Kalamazoo County Circuit Court Monday, 55-year-old Joseph Weeks was sentenced to 5 months in jail, for the embezzlement charge.  As part of the plea deal, two other felony charges were dropped, and as well prosecutors agreed not to charge Weeks with a felony firearm charge he had previously pled guilty to.

Weeks, the former head of the Sons of Malta motorcycle club, was accused of stealing money from a fundraiser for fallen Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata.

While this trial comes to a close, Weeks is currently being investigated by Kalamazoo authorities for his possible involvement in the death of his mother in Comstock in 2012.
