More than 100 people are camped out on S. Westnedge Ave. in Portage to be the first to experience Chick-fil-A.

The Chick-fil-A cows will lead a conga line into the restaurant at 6 a.m. on February 23 as the doors officially open for the first franchise in the Kalamazoo area. More than 100 people camped overnight for a chance to win free chicken with a pickle for a year.

While waiting, happy campers also had the opportunity to pay it forward by putting together 10,000 meals for a local Michigan Food Bank in support of Feeding Children Everywhere and contributing to a children’s book drive for the local public schools.
