A man was killed Wednesday afternoon after an armed standoff with police at a Kalamazoo area mobile home park.

MLive says that Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies originally went to the Pavilion Estates Mobile Home Park in Pavilion Township around noon Wednesday to talk with a couple parked in a vehicle, after the owner of a trailer said the two had been squatting on his property. When deputies approached, they say the man got out of the car and pulled out a gun, firing one shot into the air.

A standoff between the man and deputies ensued, with law enforcement attempting to get him to drop his weapon; after around an hour, the man allegedly pointed the gun at the officers, prompting Kalamazoo Metro SWAT members to shoot him.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Michigan State Police has now been brought in to conduct the investigation into this shooting.

The woman who was in the car with the man was arrested at the scene as well, for an unrelated charge. The identities of both individuals involved are not being released by law enforcement yet.
