Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent Michael Rice calls the latest decision by the Kalamazoo Education Association's Board of Trustees a "healthy increase." A move approved for the 2018-2019 school year insures all new full-time teachers receive a $40,000 base salary. All teachers currently on staff will receive a 2% pay increase across the board. According to an article from MLive, Rice stated, "We need to get back to paying our teachers what they deserve not just what we can afford." What does bigger pay mean? More teachers will be encouraged to apply from all over Michigan and be encouraged to continue their careers in our area well in to the future. This is wonderful news for our public schools, our teachers, and our children. Congratulations, KPS, on making Kalamazoo an even more desirable town to live in!
