In college, I got really big into pro wrestling.  In fact, that's all I watched for three years.  I Netflixed every Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, Summer Slam, Survivor Series, etc...to catch up on everything I missed.

As quickly as I got into pro wrestling, I got out of it.  If you watch Monday Night Raw, you're watching a two-hour program that has three five-minute matches — and a lot of soap opera.  I don't want to watch soap opera; I want to watch guys beating the crap out of each other, and I don't want to spend $50 on Pay-Per-View to see this.

Over the summer, I switched over to DirecTV so I could get the El Rey Network, a channel run by Robert Rodriguez. Last month El Rey debuted a new original program, Lucha Underground — a wrestling show that focuses on lucha-libre-style wrestling. The show is one hour, has three matches, and every match is killer.  In between matches we're treated to small promo videos of wrestlers or managers calling out other people in the organization.

It's fast paced, it's exciting, it's high flying, and most importantly, it doesn't suck!  No choke holds that last half the match. I'm talking about luchadors jumping off the top rope and swinging around the neck of their opponent before flipping them across the ring.  And if you are a wrestling fan, there are some familiar names in the organization.

As of now, the El Rey Network is only availble on DirecTV, but Fly and I both have it, and all we talk about (and watch) is this channel. If you're a fan of wrestling (that doesn't suck) and old school kung fu movies, then El Rey is the channel for you.
