Martha Gilmore Parfet, granddaughter of W. E, Upjohn, and former president of Kalamazoo department store, Gilmore Brothers, died peacefully at her home on Gull Lake Monday. She was 91.

In addition to the business aspects to her life, she was also well know for her philanthropy, having served as president of the Kalamazoo Foundation, and the Kalamazoo Nature Center. She and her husband Ted Parfet, who died in 2006 were the founders of the Kalamazoo Wings and Wings Stadium.

MLive has more on Martha Parfet's life and her philanthropic generosity.

Here's an interesting video on what Dr.'s Upjohn and Stryker might think about the WMU School of Medicine. It features both Mrs. Parfet and her son William.
