If you always wanted to get out and try ice fishing but don't have a license you will get the chance coming up February 17th and 18th.

According to Michigan Department of Natural Resources,  the 2018 Winter Free Fishing Weekend will be February 17th and 18th.  The free weekend means that anybody, whether a Michigan resident or non resident, will be able to fish those two days without a license.

To encourage people to get out and enjoy the outdoors that weekend the DNR is also waiving Recreation passport fees to all the state parks and recreation areas.

A perfect weekend to get out and enjoy a Michigan winter.   Remember if you head out all fishing regulations still apply.

There are also various activities that are being planned for that weekend across the state. You can check out michigan.gov for more details on those events and details on the free weekend.

This is just one of two free weekends that happen in Michigan during the year.  The other free weekend takes place during the Summer.
