"Would you like a boy or girl toy with that meal?" Those are words you might not hear in Michigan anymore.

A group of Michigan lawmakers are trying to ban gender specific toys that come with some kids meals.

This might seem like a non-issue to most people, but at least 12 lawmakers have made it a priority. State Rep Leslie Love is sponsoring the bill, saying that the massive amount of meals sold makes this a big issue.

This is a significant issue as billions of these meals are sold every year and this practice can influence and limit children’s imaginations and interests by promoting some toys as only suitable for girls and others only for boys

This is not as extreme as it's being painted in the media though. One of the fixes that is being suggested is actually very sensible.

Instead of offering a "Boy or Girl" toy, the offer should just refer to the toys by what they are instead of who they are for.

I have a boy and a girl, and there have been multiple times where I had to ask what the toys are because they might not like the toy. I can understand the want to make this happen, but I don't think it should be eating up lawmakers time.

There are sooooo many more important things going on in Michigan right now, do we really need to worry about the specific words that a drive thru worker uses?
