According to Michigan Department of Natural Resources, A number of state parks and recreation areas are offering free February events that will help residents get the most out of the outdoors and winter weather.

Saturday, Feb. 6 

Lantern-lit Snowshoe Hike at Ludington State Park (Mason County):
Enjoy a self-guided lantern lit hike, campfires and hot chocolate from 6 to 8 p.m. Forty pairs of snowshoes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are asked to meet at the park warming shelter. For more information, call 231-843-9261.

Friday-Sunday, Feb. 12-14

Gun Lake Winterfest at Yankee Springs Recreation Area (Barry County): Explore the winter fun with a variety of winter-inspired activities, including an igloo village competition, a snowball-throwing competition, live performances by a cappella choirs, a fashion show, performances for the finalist of the Gun Lake Idol contest and the ever-popular Polar Bear Dip. There will also be activities for kids of all ages, including face painting, a scavenger hunt, life-size Jenga and snowman building. For more information, contact park at 269-795-9081.

Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 13-14

Winter Free Fishing Weekend throughout Michigan: All Michigan residents and visitors can fish without a license.   Read more on this event here.
