Hey friends! Stefani Bishop, here! I'm in the middle of Week 2 of My Nutrimost Adventure. I didn't quit! (and the peasants rejoice). Dr. Geri at Nutrimost says I'm doing well (with 2 pounds of fat lost), though my hydration could be improved. (Baby steps. What do you want from me, miracles?) I am burning 1,500 calories of my stored fat every day. And I'm knitting while that's happening. Pretty amazing stuff.

So, after I announced I was starting Nutrimost, I did get a lot of support. Thank you for the kind words. I also got a few emails with questions; I tried to answer them all individually, but there were a few questions that popped up more than once, so I thought I would publicly address them.

  • "...why do such a drastic diet if you already look like you're in good shape?" - Katie R., Portage

Good question, Katie. First, lets start with "drastic diet."  Sure, it's an unconventional path to weight loss.  We're all used to hearing about the latest, greatest diet fad being a meal plan.  "Eat like this and you're guaranteed to lose weight!"  The idea of adding drops to water, and eating such low calorie meals does make Nutrimost seem a little radical, and at the very least, foreign.  But believe me when I say this; it isn't drastic, and it's not a diet. The first 40 days (the Detox) are the beginning to a new lifestyle. The first 40 days resets your body's metabolism. You're putting gas in the organs that have been sputtering, hydrating yourself on a molecular level, and coming out at the end knowing what your body needs to run on all cylinders. Diets end. Nutrimost doesn't. Once I'm done with the 40 days, I will maintain a meal plan similar to what was required during the Detox. Don't get me wrong, I will indulge from time-to-time, I mean, I'm human.  But I am learning how to eat for my body, and I think that's pretty darn cool.

As for the second part, "...you already look like you're in good shape."  Are you familiar with the term "skinny fat"?  A person can look like they're in great shape, but show signs of ailments we attribute to over weight or obese people; Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc.  Just because a person looks healthy, doesn't mean they are healthy.  Bad hearts run on my dad's side of the family.  Heart attacks are a family tradition, you might say.  I knew if I didn't do something to change my lifestyle soon, being "skinny fat" was going to literally be the death of me.

  • "I read about Nutrimost online... so basically just eat 500 calories a day and lose weight. ANYONE can do that! Why would anyone pay a company for that???" - Joshua D., Kalamazoo

...because eating 500 calories a day without the support that Nurtimost provides will put your body in starvation mode.  Let me break this down. When your body isn't getting enough food it does two things; stores fat and cannibalizes muscle. Muscle is fuel. Fat is insulation. Your body will burn a small amount of muscle in order to keep you going. It uses the fat to help the burn last longer. If you were to eat 500 calories a day to lose weight, you'd actually be doing the exact opposite; you'd gain weight. The body is going to store everything it can so it doesn't have to go full Zombie on itself. Nurtimost's system confuses your body in a good way. It tells your body to go after the stored fat, and leave the muscle alone. Here's the conversation between Nutrimost and you:

Nutrimost: Sup, Body.

Body: Who are you?  How did you get in here?

N: I'm Nutrimost.  I was invited.  Listen, I've been asked to do some construction around here, but don't worry; you're going to love it when it's finished.  I've seen the blue prints, it's very special.  Here's what I need from you, okay?  First, I need you to NOT freak out.  Okay?

B: Okay, whatever.

N: You're only going to be getting between 500 and 600 calories a day-

B: I'm going to die!  F**k you! (starts crying uncontrollably)

N: Nope!  No... I told you not to freak out. Stop it. Now listen... you know that storage area over there. Over by the stomach and thighs, and what-not?

B: (sniffle) ...yeah...

N: During this whole construction process, I'm going to need you to get rid of some of that, okay? Like, say, 1,500 calories of it a day.

B: (sniffle) Why... what for?

N: Because we're downsizing. Don't need that space, anymore. I know it's like your Linus Blanket, but listen; when you use that 1,500 calories and combine it with the daily 500 calorie intake, that amounts to 2,000 calories, which I know you love... so, while I'm in here stripping things down, and clearing things out, you go ahead and eat until your heart's content.

B: I don't trust you.

N: You will.

*End Scene*

  • "...holy crap, aren't you hungry all the time?" - Lisa, Portage

Surprisingly, no. Believe it or not, there are some days that I have to remind myself it's lunch time. I know that 500 calories doesn't sound like a lot, but when you're putting the right things on your plate, you'd be amazed at how much food you have in front of you. Last night, for instance, dinner was fish (grilled, smothered in Frank's Hot Sauce, just the way I like it), a HUGE zucchini (sliced and grilled with chili powder), and an apple. When you put all of that on a plate, it actually seems like a daunting task.  I looked at my food wondering if I was going to get a t-shirt or my photo on the wall for finishing it all. The combination of supplements you're given when you start the program gives your body what it needs, and doesn't leave you wanting.
