The NFL and MLB have played international games in recent years and now it looks like the NHL is close to having both preseason and regular season games played internationally.

According to ESPN, the NHL is awaiting the players association to approve a plan to play two regular season games in Sweden in November.   The games would feature the Colorado Avalanche and the Ottawa Senators.

There is also a plan for two preseason games to be played in China between the Kings and the Canucks.

The decision on these games comes up as the NHL's participation in the next Olympics is still being decided.

A decision on the international games is expected within the next few weeks.  As for the Olympics, the major players on that decision will meet on Friday.
