There is a reason that classic stories never age.  The themes within them are timeless and compelling regardless of being set in 1920s Georgia, 1800s London, or 1500s Verona.  The Great Depression is the setting for The Civic Theatre's next production, "Of Mice and Men," opening this weekend at the Parish Theater.

According to a press release from The Civic Theatre"

...this classic American play tells the story of George and Lennie, two migrant farm workers, who go in search of new beginnings and second chances. They are hoping to attain their shared dream – to put together enough money to buy a small piece of land and build a home. After a long and exhausting journey, they arrive at a farm in California to look for work. They soon find themselves in trouble when Lennie, a gentle giant with a simple nature, runs into trouble after a misunderstanding at one of the farms. The action spirals out of control and leaves the relationship between two men, bound together by friendship, in question. Will George stand by his best friend, or stay the course to fulfill his own American dream?
