When I was a senior in high school, I was obsessed with the Sam Raimi Spider Man.  My friends and I thought it was the greatest thing in the world, and although it's a tad dated now, I still think it's a great comic book movie.  When Amazing Spider Man came out a few years ago, I wasn't too keen on the idea of rebooting the series; why not just pick off from where Spidey 3 left off?  Why do I have to sit through another origin story?  Although there are some differences in Sam's Spidey and Marc Webb's Spidey, the general idea of Spider Man is there.  It took a few watches before I really appreciated the Amazing Spider Man.  I can't really compare it with the 2002 version; to me, it's a very important film because it kicked off this comic book movie craze that we're currently in.

Although I do love a good origin story, I had seen Spider Man's origins before, so I was finally ready to cut the crap, and start seeing more development with the characters and the story.  I'll make the synopsis brief: Spider Man battles Electro and Harry Osborn's Green Goblin all while trying to maintain his relationship with Gwen and Aunt May (Rhino's appearance in the film is brief, so if you're going into this expecting Rhino to be the main villain, you'll be disappointed).   I haven't read a ton of Spider Man comics, so I don't know how true this one is to the comic (::MINOR SPOILERS:: Norman Osborn never becomes the Green Goblin, Harry does because he takes the spider venom that makes Peter Spider Man.  I don't remember that in the comic).   In the comic, Harry and Peter are best buds.  In this, Harry and Peter were close growing up, but Harry gets shipped off to boarding school, comes back home 8 years later and starts to rekindle his relationship with Peter.

The Sinister Six get nice little nods in this, and I read that we'll see them and Venom in future movies.  Even if this isn't as true to the comic as the Sam Raimi Spider Mans were, it sounds like Marc Webb and the producers are trying to please the fans by giving them what they want, which is a really kick ass Venom, and the Sinister Six.  Now, if you've seen The Amazing Spider Man movies and the story lines are true to a particular comic arc, please let me know.  I know Man of Steel and Captain America 2 are based off of newer comic arcs, so it's possible Amazing Spider Man is as well.

Andrew Garfield is a fine actor, and he plays a good Spider Man, but I still don't know how I feel about him as Peter Parker.  Peter's supposed to be a geek, and I don't get that with Garfield.  He's more of a loner who's good at math and science.  Now, Emma Stone is super cute and I could watch her all day.  Plus I bet she likes drinking cheap beer and listening to old rock records, so I'm down with her.

Anyways, I really liked this one and I'm really optimistic about the next ones.  Compared to other comic movies, I didn't like it as much as the Avenger movies, but I did like it more than the other ones out there, like Man of Steel and the X Men films.  One of these days I'll enlighten you on why Spider Man is my favorite super hero.  If you're a fan of comic book movies, you'll enjoy this.  It's got a good story, good special effects, good acting, good action scenes, and if you strip away the action, you're left with a decent romantic comedy.

I'm not sure if what you just read is a review, or my train of thought/two cents.  Anyways, if you didn't like it, you can kiss my ass.
