Ramone’s Yiddish Word of the Week

I know, I've been lazy and haven't done one of these for a few weeks.  But I promise, this week's Yiddish word is a good one!

bupkes - Not a word for polite company. Bubkes or bobkes may be related to the Polish word for “beans”, but it really means “goat droppings” or “horse droppings.” It’s often used by American Jews for “trivial, worthless, useless, a ridiculously small amount” – less than nothing, so to speak.*

• "Lonestar, the ring is bupkes!  I got it out of a Cracker Jacks box!"
• Grand Master Flash and Madonna were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before KISS.  The hall is bupkes.
