The Detroit Red Wings are sitting at home as the playoffs move into the second round.  One of their alternate captain has been nominated for an NHL Humanitarian Award.

The NHL recently announced this years nominees for the King Clancy Award.   Each team has nominated a player for this year's award.  Red Wings Alternate Captain, Justin Abdelkader is the Red Wings nominee this season.

According to the NHL, the award is given to the player who," exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community".

The winner of the award is voted on by a committee of NHL executives and will be announced on June 20th as part of the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

We will find out if Justin makes the cut as three finalist will be announced on Monday, April 30th.

Red Wings Captain Henrik Zetterberg won this award in the 2014-2015 season.

Next up for the Red Wings will be the Draft Lottery which takes place this weekend.  This will determine where the teams first round pick will be.   The NHL Draft will take place June 22nd and 23rd.
