It has been a down season for the Detroit Red Wings who will miss the playoffs this season.  One of the bright spots has been the play of Captain Henrik Zetterberg.

According to Winging It In Motown,   the Captain is the Red Wings nominee for the Masterton Trophy.  Each NHL team nominates a player and there isn't a current Wings player who fits the description of this trophy more than Henrik.  It is given to the player who shows dedication, sportsmanship and perseverance to hockey.

It is not always the case, but often the award goes to a player that is coming back from a major injury or a major set back in his playing career.   Henrik has had his share of back injuries of late and is putting up some great numbers for the Red Wings.

So far this season he is at 60 points.   This season has been forgettable for the team, but it would be a great way to honor number 40 for his hard work this year.

The overall award is selected by the professional hockey writers who will vote on the winner from the nominees.   Good Luck Captain.
