It has been a long off season for the Detroit Red Wings but the start of a new season will be here soon and now we know when the first home game will be.

The Red Wings have announced that Thursday, October 4th will be the second home opener for the Little Caesars Arena.    The Red Wings will host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It should be a competitive game as the Jackets are a young an upcoming team.  They are coming off a first round exit to the Stanley Cup winning Washington Capitals.

The Red Wings missed the playoffs for the second straight year but should be more competitive as they will have more younger players ready to join the team.

The home opener has been good for the Wings the last 5 years as they have won 5 straight.

Individual game tickets will go on sale later this summer.   The full 2018-2019 schedule will be announced live on NHL Network tomorrow afternoon.

This Weekend will also see the Red Wings active at the NHL Draft in Dallas.  The Red Wings have four of the first 36 picks in the draft.
