Thousands of Michiganders will descend on the Straits of Mackinac on Labor Day weekend for the famous bridge walk. But there's a different bridge experience that might be even better - certainly unique.

The Sault International Festival of Races, held the last weekend in September, includes the chance to run on the International Bridge to Canada.

Runners who take part in the Half Marathon and the 7.1 mile "Bridge Run" through the Soo will have the opportunity to run along the Sault Ste Marie International Bridge, a 2.8 mile span that carries Interstate 75 to Ontario.

Race organizers note that no passports will be needed to take part in the International Bridge run:

We are NOT entering Canada. Our route turns around prior to passing through Canada Customs. Please note that no one is allowed on the Bridge without a runner’s bib. U.S. and Canadian Customs Officials will be on hand.

If you want to experience the bridge that normally carries only vehicular traffic? You'll need to be a runner. There's no event that allows walkers to take part in a stroll over the International Bridge.
