Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has released a calendar of monthly events that include some amazing opportunities to stargaze that begins this Saturday and runs all the way until October. Those who come are going get a first hand viewing experience as they'll be observing outer space, planets, meteor showers and galaxies like our very own Milky Way's spiral arm. According to the Detroit Free Press, Many of these viewing parties will be "double parties," with the chance for you to attend an event in late afternoon and then another later that evening.

All of the Star Party events are free to attend but an entrance pass to the dunes is required. You can purchase passes at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire for $20, which is good for seven days. Park rangers and the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society suggest spectators bring binoculars, beach chairs, blankets, bug spray and water. Also, they encourage using red-filtered flashlights if anything,  since white light spoils night vision. For list and dates of the events and other info, click here!
