It’s good to be home. After a terrible road trip, the Tigers start their long home stand with a 5-3 win.Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander collaborated to make Tuesday night’s win an interesting one. Verlander and the Tigers gave up three runs to the Royals in the 1st, but it didn’t take long for the Tigers to turn things around. J.D. Martinez got the scoring started for Tiger batters in the 2nd, with a home run to left. Jose Iglesias and Mikie Mahtook singled in the third, and  Miguel Cabrera’s three run shot gave the Tigers the 4-3 lead.  Tiger batters would tack on one more in the 4th.   Nick Castellanos singled, James McCann was hit by a pitch and a single from Kinsler made it a 5-3 Tigers lead..

Daniel Stumpf relieved Verlander in the 8th. After two singles, the Royals were able to send the winning run to the plate. However, Stumpf was able to work out of trouble and keep the Royals off the board. Justin Wilson pitched a  1-2-3 9th, and the Tigers would hold on for their second straight win.

In spite of the three run, 1st inning, Justin Verlander had a strong outing. In 7 innings of work, he would give up the 3 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Five of those nine hits were in the 1st.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 34-42. The Tigers get to take on Kansas City at Comerica Park on Wednesday and again on Thursday, before hosting Cleveland and San Francisco.
