The Detroit Tigers had the tough task of trying to take three-of-four games against the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park. An even tougher task when the Tigers saw one of the aces on the mound Monday afternoon.

A Nicholas Castellanos RBI single in the eighth inning drove in Andrew Romine following his second hit of the afternoon put the Tigers ahead and hold on to a 2-1 victory over the Red Sox.

Romine, playing for an injured Justin Upton, went 2-for-3 on the day. Ian Kinsler launched his second homer on the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning, to tie the ballgame up a 1-1.

Justin Verlander had a quality start for the Tigers, allowing the lone Red Sox run on three hits and fanning four in seven innings of work. Justin Wilson earns his first win on the mound this season, tossing a hitless inning of relief. Francisco Rodriguez would close it out in the ninth for his second save in three chances.

Chris Sale struck out 10 Tigers in 7 2/3 innings in a losing effort for the Red Sox. He gets his first loss as a member of the Boston ball club after seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers continue their season-opening homestand Tuesday night when they begin a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins. Catch the action on 95.3 WBCK beginning at 12:45pm!
