The Tigers lost to the Yankees 7-3 on Monday night in New York.  Michael Fulmer started and gave up seven runs, six of them earned, in six innings pitched.   The Yankees got all the runs they would need in the fourth of  Fulmer, after a leadoff walk to Aaron Judge and an error by Ian Kinsler.   A Chase Headley double scored two, and Todd Frasier knocked in two more.  Aaron Judge broke out of a slump as he hit his 34th homer of the season.  The Tigers had plenty of scoring chances as they drew four walks and were hit by pitches three times, but couldn’t get the big hits when they needed them. Outfielder Jim Adduci knocked in a run and saved two runs as he robbed Frasier of a home run with a nice catch.  Anibal Sanchez starts for the Tigers tonight against the Yankees’ C.C. Sabathia.   Hear the game at 6:40 on 95.3 WBCK.

Tiger Trades

There were rumors that Justin Verlander might be traded by the Tigers, the only team he's ever played for.  That didn't happen.  Verlander was still in a Tiger uniform when the 4pm trade deadline came and went.

So, when the dust cleared, the Tigers dealt three players -- outfielder J.D. Martinez, catcher Alex Avila and reliever Justin Wilson.   They got back five minor-league infielders.  Verlander, Ian Kinsler, Jose Iglesias, and Justin Upton are still Tigers.

Meanwhile, manager Brad Ausmus has named his new closer.  Shane Greene will take the ball in the 9th inning of close games.   The Tigers called up hard-throwing right- hander Joe Jimenez and catcher-first baseman John Hicks.
