A pair of Kalamazoo police officers were assaulted early Sunday morning while addressing large crowds.

Around 12:40am Sunday, a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer was talking to a crowd at Greenwood Ave. and Redwood Ave, when he spotted a man in the crowd waving a gun.  The man then pointed the gun at the officer and fled on foot, but he was arrested without incident a short distance away.

The 18-year-old from Centerville will be facing charges of felonious assault on a police officer, felony firearm and others.

The second incident happened around 2:22am at W. Michigan Ave. and Euclid Ave, where KDPS Officers were managing a large crowd.

At some point a 25-year-old Kalamazoo resident threw a bottle and hit an officer in the head; the officer was treated for non-life threatening injury at Bronson.

The suspect did get away initially, but was located around 1pm Sunday in the 1200 block of California and arrested.  They will be facing a charge of Felonious Assault on a Police Officer.
