You know the story; young Tracy Turnblad and her best friend, Penny, have dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show.  A little overweight, but bursting with ambition she makes her dreams come true all while fighting for human rights, winning the affections of her crush, and turning a whole town on it's ear.

Hairspray is a truly unique musical in that it demands such diversity in the cast; every age, every gender, and nearly every ethnicity are represented. That's why The Civic Theatre needs YOU to audition!

Sunday, March 6th and Monday, March 7th at 7:00pm at The Carver Center (426 South Park Street) - callbacks to follow on March 9th.

Never auditioned?  Don't know what to expect?  Don't worry!  I'll walk you through the whole thing... it's easy peasy...

  1. Before you audition, prepare to sing between 30 and 60 seconds of a song.  That can be anything from a great 60s Motown jam to a known Broadway tune.  Practice that this weekend... you're going to be singing that for a director.
  2. Arrive about 15 minutes early.  That way you can shake hands with the directors and stage managers and get settled.  They will give you paperwork...
  3. Fill out your paperwork. The paperwork will ask you about your previous experience on stage, in dance, or singing - don't be discouraged if you've never done any of those things.  It's never too late to start!
  4. Wait your turn to sing, dance, and read a bit from the script.

That's it!  Auditions are really easy.  The hard part is waiting for the "Callback Sheet" to be posted...

So, please!  Come out, won't you?  Being a part of a show is a lot of work, but it's so much fun and is so rewarding.  Know anyone who might want to get involved with The Civic?  Share this post!
