Roberto Aguayo kicked a 38-yard field goal as time expired, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers edged the Carolina Panthers, 17-14, in Charlotte on Monday night.

Aguayo converted the kick after missing from 33 and 46 yards earlier in the game. A controversial second-round draft choice by Tampa Bay (2-3) this spring, Aguayo had made only 3 of 7 field goals this season prior to the game-winning kick.

Derek Anderson passed for 278 yards, with three turnovers for Carolina (1-4). The defending NFC champions were without starting quarterback Cam Newton, who sustained a concussion last week against the Falcons.

Jameis Winston threw for 219 yards and a touchdown for the Buccaneers.
