ORIGINAL STORY: The saddest thing about this video is the dog seemed to be compliant with its owner's wishes, so why did he punch it?

The video was captured by a man who heard a guy screaming, looked over to see the man punch his dog. He pulled out his phone to get evidence, and now local authorities are searching for the man and his dog.

WOOD-TV 8 obtained a copy of the video, which is extremely hard to watch.

It shows a man punching the bog in the body hard several times after it ignored a call to come to the man. The dog can be heard yelping when it's getting hit.

Local authorities say the video will be used to help press charges against the man, who has not been identified.

“We are grateful to the witnesses who informed us about this incident. We are working closely with the appropriate law enforcement agencies to ensure the welfare of this animal,” Kent County Animal Shelter Director Angela Hollinshead said in a statement to News 8.

An investigation is under way, and there has been no word as to the whereabouts of the dog or the man involved.

I know that times are tough for a lot of people, and life can become very frustrating, but you can learn to channel that anger in appropriate ways, because what good does it do to take it out on a defenseless animal?

If you see animal abuse, report it immediately to the county animal shelter. The Kent County Animal Shelter can be reached at 616.632.7304.
