I'm sure you're not surprised to hear that the movie Cocaine Bear, while loosely based on real events, is pretty much pure fiction. The idea of a black bear on a ton of the white stuff feels like a nightmare beyond nightmares.

But in the sake of safety and fun, Michigan's Department of Natural Resources (or DNR) has decided to let one of their in-house bear experts review the film on Twitter, where she pointed out which parts are fact, and which are pure fiction.

What is the real story of Cocaine Bear?

Cocaine bear is an animal of legend in my home state of Kentucky. He came to be in 1985, when a drug smuggler on the run from the police, decided to throw pounds upon pounds of cocaine out of a plane, before jumping and accidentally dying when his parachute failed to deploy.

At the time, the 175-pound bear ingested 2-3 ounces of cocaine, then died instantly from an overdose. Its body was later found, stuffed, and placed into a mall in Central Kentucky where weird tourists have been enjoying it for over a decade, inspiring the movie that is now out. And yes, his nickname is Pablo Eskabear, which they don't mention in the film.

What does the Michigan DNR have to say about Cocaine Bear?

The tweet posted to the Michigan DNR official account earlier this week stars Rachel, who is an expert on bears with the DNR. She starts off by saying that there are a few things that are accurate about Cocaine Bear.

Okay, so the movie does start off with some accuracy, Bears do make noises similar to this. It's more often a grunt or a huff or sometimes they'll click their jaws back and forth.

But she then points out, that's where it ends. The bear in the trailer goes on to eat multiple bricks of cocaine, to which Rachel points out that the bear would be instantly dead from an overdose.

Rachel, thanks for your expert take. However, I'm still going to enjoy all of the nonsense that Cocaine Bear brings to the screen this weekend.
