Consumers Energy is asking all customers to reduce their natural gas usage for the next 24 to 48 hours after a fire at a key facility in Macomb County Wednesday morning.
According to Consumers Energy’s Outage Map, roughly 7,700 people lost power around 2am, mostly on the north side of Kalamazoo and into Kalamazoo Township.
A suspect in the attempted bombing and arson of a Consumers Energy substation on Elm Street in Battle Creek has been named by the city's Police Department.
The Michigan Public Service Commission is investigating the billing and estimated usage practices of Consumers Energy in response to customer complaints.
