As I remember it, the Comm-University named event started in the early 1990's, and when current athletic director Kathy Beauregard took over in 1997, she kept it going and in fact built on it.

Western Michigan University's football Broncos picked up a running back today from Michigan State University. A former Mr.Football in Michigan, La'Darius Jefferson, who entered transfer protocol last October, will be playing football on Stadium Drive this fall.

Two weeks later, he gets married. But this stretch of big events begins with the announcement today Wassink has won the Danny Wuerffel Trophy.
