Western Michigan Football

Grab a seat, it's story time. This is a story from about twenty-two years ago. Western Michigan's annual football home opener is known as Comm-University Night. As I remember it, the Comm-University named event started in the early 1990's, and when current athletic director Kathy Beauregard took over in 1997, she kept it going and in fact built on it.

September is about to start, and to me, it means one thing, football. In this country, baseball bills itself as our pastime, but football is king.

Western Michigan versus Michigan. The Big Dog in the Big House playing one of the directional schools. All we need now is for the directional school to beat the big boys.

You probably care about the last weekend in November and a battle between Michigan and Ohio State. Well, the Big Ten conference says-fingers crossed-those games will happen in 2021.

A little bit of deception that resulted in Western Michigan winning a football game has the sports world buzzing this morning.

The Western Michigan Broncos will begin a shortened 2020 football season on the road on November 4th. But a quick glance at the schedule says the Broncos may have caught a break.

A very murky college football picture for the 2020 season is, maybe, starting to take shape, but there are still more questions than answers, and with, whatever label we are choosing to put on this,  the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, all this planning may be for naught...

Western Michigan University's football Broncos picked up a running back today from Michigan State University. A former Mr.Football in Michigan, La'Darius Jefferson, who entered transfer protocol last October, will be playing football on Stadium Drive this fall.

Talk about going out with a flourish. Western Michigan quarterback Jon Wassink, who led the Broncos to seven wins this season, will play in the First Responder Bowl in Dallas on December 30th. Two weeks later, he gets married. But this stretch of big events begins with the announcement today Wassink has won the Danny Wuerffel Trophy.

Despite two horrific events that happened in the first half of that year, the second half of the year left Kalamazoo with something proud to remember for a long time
