Beginning Saturday, July 16th,  Motorist should be watching for Adopt A Highway volunteers as they head back to the roadways to pick up liter.

According to Michigan Department of Transportation, participants in the program will be out from July 16th till July 24th cleaning up highway roadsides through out the state.

This is the second of three pickups scheduled for this year.  M-DOT says that each year volunteers collect about 70,000 bags of trash, generating about a $5 million value annually for state taxpayers.

The popular program began in 1990 and has grown to involve nearly 3,000 groups cleaning 6,400 miles of highway.  Sections of highway are still available for adoption. Interested groups can get more information at www.michigan.gov/adoptahighway.
