While an inevitable shakeout is occurring in the craft beer industry, business is good for many, including two Michigan breweries named to a list of the top 50 fastest growing breweries in the United States, by the Brewers Association, a trade organization "dedicated" to small and independent brewers.

Williamston's Old Nation Brewing, makers of M-43 and Boss Tweed, is No. 33 on the list, and in West Michigan, Big Lake Brewing in Holland is No.46 on the same list.

In one of the great comeback stories, Old Nation was struggling to survive, and was this close to calling it quits when they came out with M-43. That beer caught on big, and was followed by Boss Tweed, which to this author tastes like a more powerful version of M-43, and now it's one of the fasted growing in the United States.

A sure sign Big Lake Brewing is growing is a move a year ago from its modest beginnings in a strip mall in Holland to a much more spacious location in downtown Holland.
