Year-To-Date Crash Fatalities Down In Michigan
As of December 12, 978 people have died on Michigan's roadways due to crashes in 2017.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says in a release that in the past week there were 18 fatalities; compared to December 12, 2016, the year-to-date number of fatalities was down by 31.
Portage Teen Attempts To Steal Police Car After Crash Sunday
Portage Public Safety Officers had been called to the C Store on Centre Ave. around 7:30am Sunday, to find an unoccupied vehicle that crashed into a gas pump; witnesses said the driver had fled on foot, and officers located the 17-year-old driver a short time later on Angling Rd.
Man Hit By Semi While Walking In Road Left Critically Injured
The Battle Creek Police Department says that they were called to Columbia Ave. near Helmer Rd. around 6:30pm Tuesday, after a man was seen walking away from his car after it had gone off the road. Witnesses said the man had been walking on Helmer Rd, causing cars to swerve around him; shortly after, the man was found, struck by a semi-truck.
Two Killed In Motorcycle Crash In Comstock Sunday
A crash between a motorcycle and a car Sunday afternoon left two people dead in Comstock.
The crash took place around 12:30pm at the intersection of Sprinkle Rd. and East H Ave; both people on the motorcycle were killed in the crash, while it’s unknown if the driver of the sedan was hurt.
Three Cars Set On Fire In Kalamazoo Monday Morning
Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were called to the area of Mabel and Elizabeth Streets around 2:40am Monday, to find three vehicles on fire. No one was hurt in the fires, but police say that they do believe these were all set intentionally. The KDPS says in a release that they are now investigating this crime, and looking for suspects, but none have been identified yet.
3,400 Lose Power In Kalamazoo, Calhoun Counties
Around 3,400 people are without power in Kalamazoo and Calhoun Counties Monday morning.
According to Consumer’s Energy’s Outage Map, residents in Galesburg, Climax and western Battle Creek lost power around 7am, with the cause unknown.
Michigan State Police Post in Battle Creek To Be Sold, Demolished
The Battle Creek City Commission will be meeting again on Tuesday, and they have a few items of note on their agenda.
According to the agenda, one item that will be up for a vote is a deal to finally sell the land the vacant Michigan State Police post sits on, at the corner of Columbia Ave. and LaVista Blvd.
Memorial Run To Be Held For Theresa Lockhart
A special memorial run is set to be held next week to honor a Portage woman killed by her husband. The Kalamazoo Area Runners announced that the run will take place Wednesday to remember Theresa Lockhart, who was an active member of the running nonprofit.
