America's oldest active brand of automobiles is dropping its name from new models in an effort to update their image.

"This is not your father's Oldsmobile" didn't save that brand from ceasing production in 2004 but General Motors is trying again to update the image of another division: Buick.

Starting with the 2019 vehicles, the nameplate "Buick" will not appear below the left taillight on the drivers side of the cars that used to be built with the slogan "When better automobiles are built, Buick will build them." The Motor City's Detroit News explains the reason for the change:

The brand has long tried to overcome its stigma as an old-fogy mobile, most recently distancing itself from the connotations of the Buick name with the “That’s not a Buick” ad campaign that included Super Bowl spots with Cam Newton, Miranda Kerr and Odell Beckham Jr.

"Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick" is out and General Motors is counting on the three shields of the Buick badge to give them name recognition and brand awareness in the digital age.
