“2014 Winter Blast Half Marathon & 5k Community Spirit Challenge and Volunteer Opportunities”

January 28, 2014 [PORTAGE, Mich.] – The Winter Blast Half Marathon and 5k is pleased to introduce the Community Spirit Challenge for groups who volunteer to staff one of seven aid & spirit stations on race morning, March 2, 2014.   Volunteer groups are eligible for cash awards which they designate to a local (Kalamazoo and adjacent counties) non-profit 501(c) (3) organization of their choice.  Any business, organization or group is eligible to participate by recruiting a minimum of 10 volunteers to staff an aid station developing a creative theme, and generate course excitement.  The recipient of the cash award must be a local non-profit 501(c) (3) organization.   Proceeds will be awarded based on half marathon participant post-race vote.

Altogether, the Winter Blast Half Marathon & 5k needs nearly 200 volunteers to fill a variety of positions including the Community Spirit Challenge aid stations, course marshals, parking attendants, registration volunteers, awards volunteers and more March 1 & 2, 2014.  The event is organized in partnership by the Kalamazoo Area Runners and the City of Portage.

Event proceeds benefit the Winter Blast Half Marathon & 5k, and the Kalamazoo Area Runners.  Kalamazoo Area Runners is the largest running club in the State of Michigan, and a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to the promotion of running as a source of physical, spiritual and social wellness while enhancing the quality of life in the community.
